چکیده

The issue of bioprocess dynamical modelling is addressed in the situation where measurements of extracellular species are the only available data besides measurements of the biomass itself. This question is investigated under the assumption that a metabolic network connecting the extracellular species is available. A metabolic flux analysis is first performed in order to test the consistency of the metabolic network. The elementary flux modes are computed and translated into a set of macro-reactions connecting the extracellular substrates and products. Then a dynamical model, compatible with the underlying metabolic network, is build on the basis of these macro-reactions. The approach is illustrated with the example of CHO cells cultivated in stirred flasks on a serum-free medium. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

DRUM: A New Framework for Metabolic Modeling under Non-Balanced Growth. Application to the Carbon Metabolism of Unicellular Microalgae

Metabolic modeling is a powerful tool to understand, predict and optimize bioprocesses, particularly when they imply intracellular molecules of interest. Unfortunately, the use of metabolic models for time varying metabolic fluxes is hampered by the lack of experimental data required to define and calibrate the kinetic reaction rates of the metabolic pathways. For this reason, metabolic models ...

A new framework for metabolic modeling under non-balanced growth. Application to carbon metabolism of unicellular microalgae

Macroscopic and metabolic models are ubiquitous tools for bioprocess modeling and understanding. While these two modeling approaches bring answers to different objectives, a remaining challenging question is how to couple macroscopic and intracellular models to enlarge the prediction capabilities of the model while keeping a model structure with low complexity level? In this paper, we provide c...

Modelling of Sediment Transport in Beris Fishery Port

In this paper, the large amount of sedimentation and the resultant shoreline advancements at the breakwaters of Beris Fishery Port are studied. A series of numerical modeling of waves, sediment transport, and shoreline changes were conducted to predict the complicated equilibrium shoreline. The outputs show that the nearshore directions of wave components are not perpendicular to the coast whic...

Increased Susceptibility to Metabolic Alterations in Young Adult Females Exposed to Early Malnutrition

Early malnutrition during gestation and lactation modifies growth and metabolism permanently. Follow up studies using a nutritional rehabilitation protocol have reported that early malnourished rats exhibit hyperglycemia and/or hyperinsulinemia, suggesting that the effects of early malnutrition are permanent and produce a "programming" effect on metabolism. Deleterious effects have mainly been ...
